A web log and more by Eric Toupin

A skate of some sort
After about ten months in Costa Rica, I'm moving on. While I was able to get a few decent photos in the past couple weeks, (mostly during my parent's vacation), the visibility has been continually dropping and I'm finding myself ready for new terrain. I've had an introductory taste of free-diving, a sample of Spanish, and a little brush with Latin culture. All in all, I'm ready for more.
The current plan is to spend a few months with my family in Virginia and acquire a small sailboat to begin heading towards the Caribbean. I've got about twelve tons of anxiety concerning pulling all of that together, and am just about maxed out on sleepless nights and nervous hunger. Yuck.

Sad to say, my diving has foundered a bit. I haven't been deeper than about forty-five feet in several weeks, am rarely even wearing fins when I get out to swim, and I'm enduring dives of only about 1:10 on average. I can (and do) blame a lot of that on worsening conditions and an increased workload in preparation for the financial stresses of the coming changes. Hopefully, after November I'll be able to easily shift my attention back to training. I'm putting all my eggs in a Caribbean basket, honestly.
In the meantime, spending a few months in Virginia could actually be kind of fun, and I'm certainly looking forward to seeing family.
