Relaxing in Jordan's Ghost
Key West, FL. Change of plans. I've opted to forgo the trip to Central America. Gil will be sailing with a friend (a celestial navigation enthusiast) to Key West once his boat is complete. From there he will be looking to pick up a crew for the trip beyond. I arrived here in Key West two nights ago by bus. I went out with friends Friday night to meander around downtown and dance to some funk music, then caught a ride back to Jordan's Ghost late yesterday.
In lieu of sailing around Central America I'll be focusing on a more long term solution for work. The plan is complicated and not fully developed, but it basically entails me working in Denver for a few months and possibly moving elsewhere afterward for six months to a year. Really, I shouldn't even call it work. Working towards building my own business is something I'd like to do because I've become excited about it, not because I have to or feel pressured to. More on that later.
Originally I was planning on selling Jordan's Ghost in order to put together some money for the new direction, but it looks like I won't be selling the boat after all. While I was convinced that selling was my best option, I didn't allow myself to lament and felt, overall, pretty nonplussed with the decision. It's funny: now that I've established an alternate plan wherein I'm able to keep the boat, I feel like I just got a brand new boat. It even looks new. And I'm so going sailing tomorrow.
So next steps now are to complete some maintenance work on the boat (trim work, resurface the bottom, perhaps improve the plumbing) and then head back to Colorado. I imagine I'll be moving that way within the next couple of weeks. The boat will stay here in Florida, and I'll plan on visiting to catch up every once in awhile.
